Marvel is Bullshit and You Fanboys Need to Calm the Fuck Down

These are strange times.  Ten years ago if Martin Scorsese was asked in an interview what he felt about Marvel/superhero films and gave the same answer he gave to Empire last month, the response would have been just slightly beyond apathetic.  You might have seen a few angry message board comments from a few teenage fucktards, but overall most people would think, “Hmm ok I guess that’s how Martin Scorsese (one of the greatest American filmmakers of all time) feels about these dumb movies.  Fair enough.”  Instead, these last few weeks we’ve seen an onslaught of angry fanboys and gals, both normie and famous, crying about how this statement is an egregious “attack”.

What baffles me most about this idiotic fuckery is the extreme defensiveness and indignation from the Marvel mob.  These are literally the most popular movies in the fucking world, and basically the only movies that studios have any interest in financing and promoting.  They hold SUPREMACY over all entertainment.  Their presence in our lives, whether we watch them or not, is inescapable.  Marvel has already won.  They can’t go any higher.  So why does the idea of someone not loving these movies with every fiber of their being bother these fans so much?

Martin Scorsese did not “attack” Marvel.  Someone asked him a question, and he provided an answer.  Freedom of speech, people.  Sure he was critical of them, but so what?  I think by now Scorsese has earned the right to speak about the artistic value of current popular movies.

What’s also pathetic is the fact that most media outlets are pandering to these knobheads.  Trash rags, all of them.  Instead of presenting this honestly (and without a clear agenda), they frame their headlines to accommodate the mob’s oh so fragile sensibilities.  Journalistic standards have plummeted, and trendy disingenuous careerism is soaring.

I want to make a few things clear: Spiderman 2 (2004) was awesome, and so was X2 (2003).  Blade is sick.  I haven’t seen Ant-Man, but I’ve heard there are Morrissey references in the sequel, so mad respect to that (even though I bet there are calls to digitally edit all of those out).

Also, go see The Irishman.
